Twelve equal signs in the tropical zodiac
AstroNivo uses the tropical zodiac, which divides a full circle into twelve equal sections of 30 degrees. Its signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. These names belong to an astrological tradition. A position within one of these signs does not by itself identify the official astronomical constellation containing a celestial body.
Astronomical constellations are regions of the sky
Astronomy uses 88 officially bounded constellations recognised by the International Astronomical Union, commonly called the IAU. Together, these regions cover the sky, with different shapes and sizes. They are not a sequence of equal 30-degree divisions. A familiar drawing joining bright stars is also a recognition aid; its outline is different from an official constellation boundary.
Why the names can coexist
An astrological text and a sky chart may use the same name while pointing to different things. A comparison without further explanation can therefore be unclear. First ask whether a source means a tropical sign, another astrological system or an astronomical region. AstroNivo identifies its framework so that a calculated position is not presented as proof of an attached symbolic interpretation.
What this means when choosing a sign
For the general horoscopes, choose your sign within the tropical system. An astronomical map is not an automatic correction to that choice; it answers a different question. Near a transition between two signs, an exact calculation may be needed because a broad date range is insufficient. This concerns a definition in a chosen system, not a test that fixes your identity.
